Protection from all forms of sexual exploitation and abuse is at the heart of our commitment, in line with con l’Art. 34 della Convenzione ONU sui Diritti dell’Infanzia e dell’Adolescenza. Since 2002, Stop-it has been the service provided by Save the Children Italy that allows users to report online content related to child sexual abuse (commonly referred to as “child sexual abuse material” or CSAM).“States must protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse, from prostitution, and from involvement in the production of child sexual abuse material.”
STOP-IT allows internet users to anonymously report:
The information collected concerns the type of content and service (email, website, chat room, social media profile, file sharing service, etc.) and location (URL, email address, etc.).
All reports relating to the presence of child pornography online collected by Stop-It, are sent to the National Center for Fighting Against Child Pornography on the Internet (CNCPO, for its Italian initials), established at the Postal and Communications Police Service, following agreed procedures and respecting the privacy of the reporter, as required by law. Stop-it cooperates with the Postal Police, within the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding.
We ask only the information available and ask not to initiate any search for further information (even if eventually required by the form of report): such behaviour could be, in fact, liable of crime, as it would be seen as proactive search of illegal material.
STOP-IT is part of the international network of hotlines known as INHOPE (www.inhope.org), which brings together and represents hotlines worldwide. INHOPE serves as a hub for connection, coordination, support, monitoring, and analysis in the fight against online child sexual abuse. It supports member hotlines and their partner organizations through training, the sharing of best practices, quality assurance, staff well-being initiatives, and advocacy efforts.
STOP-IT is co-funded by the European Commission under the Digital Europe Program (DIGITAL) and it is part of the SIC - Safer Internet Centre italiano - Generazioni Connesse, contributing to the actions of prevention, awareness raising and fight against online abuse. The SIC project is coordinated by Italian Ministry of Education with the partnership of some of the main Italian organisation involved in online safety. SIC was created to provide information, advice and support to children and adolescents for a safer and positive use of digital technologies and to facilitate the reporting of illegal online material.
